In March 1965, astronauts Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyaev of the Soviet Union traveled to space in the Voskhod-2 spacecraft. On March 18, Alexei opened the door of the spacecraft and walked into space. He stayed in outer space for 12 minutes. The 60th anniversary of this first spacewalk was celebrated on March 18, 2025. Alexei was the first human to walk in space, and the Soviet Union was the first country to launch a spacewalk.
